Post-16 Pathways & Support

We support pupils in exploring and securing appropriate post-16 destinations that reflect their individual interests, strengths and future goals.

Our approach ensures that all pupils are informed about the full range of pathways available to them, enabling them to make informed, confident and realistic decisions about their next steps.

Post-16 Options

Pupils are supported to explore a range of post-16 pathways, including:

  • Further education (college)
  • Apprenticeships – Apprenticeships allow pupils to work, earn and gain qualifications at the same time.
  • Training providers
  • Employment with training
  • Supported Internships (for pupils with an EHCP)

We encourage pupils to consider all options carefully, including entry requirements, learning styles and long-term progression opportunities.

Pupils are supported throughout the process, including researching options, completing applications and preparing for interviews.

    Labour Market Information (LMI):

Labour Market Information (LMI) helps pupils understand which jobs are in demand, what skills are needed and what opportunities are available locally and nationally.

We use LMI to support pupils in identifying pathways that match both their interests and future opportunities.

This supports pupils in making informed, realistic decisions about their future pathways.

    Local Providers

We work closely with a range of local providers to ensure pupils have access to accurate information and meaningful encounters. These include:

    • Chesterfield College
    • Derby College Group
    • Buxton & Leek College
    • West Nottinghamshire College

Pupils are supported to attend open events, engage with providers and make applications throughout the year.

    How-To Guides and Support

These resources are designed to support pupils, parents and carers in understanding how to apply and prepare for post-16 options.

Pupils and parents/carers can also use the following national resources:

    Applying to College

    Finding an Apprenticeship

    Open Events & Opportunities

We regularly share information about open events, taster sessions and opportunities with local providers.

These events provide a valuable opportunity for pupils and parents/carers to:

    • Explore different pathways
    • Meet tutors and employers
    • Ask questions about courses and training

We encourage all pupils and parents/carers to engage with these opportunities to support informed and confident decision-making.
